Essentials for Your Long-Distance Move!

Mar 11, 2024 | 3 comments

Let’s clarify something important: the moving van won’t be following you and the kids from Houston to another state. For most moves, it will arrive days or even weeks after you, so it’s crucial to be prepared for this period unless you’ve opted for direct moving services at an additional cost. Do yourself a favor and ensure you’re ready by taking the following essentials with you and your family! Please read this article to learn which items you should keep with you versus those you can ship with the movers for your long-distance move. Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome: Essentials for Your Long-Distance Move or take it with you and be happy!

Travel Essentials

Pack a bag or suitcase for each family member as if you were going on a family vacation. Consider the upcoming weather and activities when selecting clothing and shoes. Don’t forget toiletries, essential medications, contact lenses, and similar items. If you are planning new arrangements in your new living area, bring all the relevant documents.

Home Essentials
All that said, if you’re not staying in a hotel the entire time, make sure you bring the following items to set up the bare necessities in your new place:

  1. toilet paper
  2. bath towels
  3. dishes – paper, plastic, or real – just bring something to serve takeout on and with.  *Remember – if you bring real dishes, bring some hand soap and a towel
  4. shower curtain liner(s)
  5. air mattress(s)
  6. bedding and pillows

Valuables

Although we take great care to protect our customers’ belongings during the move, things do happen from time to time.  Even if you purchase full coverage insurance, most places do not cover items of extraordinary value (estate jewelry, high value art, etc.).  Make sure you bring these items with you.  Further, any sentimental or irreplaceable items should not be sent with the movers!  Keep your grandma’s ashes, wedding photos, etc. with you so you can enjoy them for years to come!

Pet Essentials

Don’t forget about Fido and Garfield!  Make sure you have leashes and collars, flea treatments and medications, a litter box and anything else you may need for your most precious cargo.
