Okay we need to clear something up. The moving van is not going to follow you, Spot and the kids from Houston to Baltimore! For most moves, they will arrive days or even weeks after you and you need to make sure you’re prepared for that, unless of course you have paid extra for direct services. Do yourself a favor and be prepared by bringing the following along with you and the family!
Travel Essentials
Pack a bag or suitcase for each member of the family as though you were going on a family vacation. Consider upcoming weather and activities when gathering clothing and shoes. Don’t forget toiletries and any essential medications, contact lenses and the like.
Home Essentials
All that said, you are most likely not staying in a hotel the entire time. Make sure you bring the following to set up the bare necessities in your new place:
- toilet paper
- bath towels
- dishes – paper, plastic, or real – just bring something to serve takeout on and with. *Remember – if you bring real dishes, bring some hand soap and a towel
- shower curtain liner(s)
- air mattress(s)
- bedding and pillows
Valuables
Although we take great care to protect our customers’ belongings during the move, things do happen from time to time. Even if you purchase full coverage insurance, most places do not cover items of extraordinary value (estate jewelry, high value art, etc.). Make sure you bring these items with you. Further, any sentimental or irreplaceable items should not be sent with the movers! Keep your grandma’s ashes, wedding photos, etc. with you so you can enjoy them for years to come!
Pet Essentials
Don’t forget about Fido and Garfield! Make sure you have leashes and collars, flea treatments and medications, a litter box and anything else you may need for your most precious cargo.
